Abstract
Over the years, the role of BIM has evolved from a coordination tool to a performance-driven design platform and is now becoming increasingly infused with artificial intelligence. This research explores the influence of BIM capability with AI technology on fenestration system performance and outcomes of the projects in the South Indian AEC sector. The method employed was quantitative where data were gathered from industry professionals of 300 respondents. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used to analyze the data to assess the direct and indirect relationships. The results show that the use of AI-integrated BIM capability positively contributes to fenestration system performance (β = 0.64, p < 0.001), and fenestration performance positively affects the project outcomes (β = 0.58, p < 0.001). A significant amount of variance in fenestration performance (R² = 0.61) and project outcomes (R² = 0.68) is explained by the model. The mediation analysis results validated the partial mediation of fenestration performance between the capability of the AI-BIM and the project outcomes. Further, there are indications that BIM maturity and green building experience enhance the effectiveness of integrating AI in the moderate range of moderation results. The study is a contribution in creating a clear performance based trajectory between digital capabilities and project outcomes. The results underscore the importance of optimizing systems over just adopting the technology in the context of BIM and AI.
